Foundry bronze ‘Long Haired Sitting Cat’, limited edition of 250, hand cast in Britain with free delivery worldwide.
Following the popularity of Sue Maclaurin’s life size Garden Long Haired Sitting Cat, we have received numerous calls from collectors asking if we could please produce a Long Haired Sitting Cat in our ‘classic’ scale, suitable for display on a side table or mantlepiece.
‘Long Haired Sitting Cat’ is the result, and we are delighted to introduce this stunning sculpture to you now. This piece holds a special place in Nelson & Forbes Managing Director Deborah Foster’s heart, growing up as she did up with two very special long haired cats – first a giant ginger rockstar, followed by a highly opinionated, jet black duchess!
Hand cast in solid bronze, this gentle and expressive sculpture captures the quiet poise and graceful character of a beautiful long haired cat observed in a peaceful moment of contemplation.
Each casting is created entirely by hand in a British foundry, using the ancient lost wax method of casting bronze. A new mould is made and destroyed during the casting process for each, ensuring that each of the 250 castings in the edition is truly unique. Every casting bears our ‘NF’ maker’s mark and Sue Maclaurin’s signature, and is individually numbered as one of a limited edition of just 250 castings worldwide.
‘Long Haired Sitting Cat’ arrives beautifully presented in one of our handmade presentation gift boxes, hand crafted by our expert box maker in the Midlands.
Your boxed sculpture is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, printed by hand from an original copper plate engraving in Hampshire, signed by the artist and individually numbered with the edition number of your casting. This is your guarantee that this is an genuine Nelson & Forbes solid bronze casting of an original sculpture by Sue Maclaurin, that the artist has personally approved.
This sculpture perfectly complements the other bronze cats in Sue Maclaurin’s collection, including Sitting Cat II, Crouching Cat, Cat Licking Paw, Leaping Cat, Bounding Cat, Running Cat, Stretching Cat and Playing Cat. Whether for yourself or a fellow cat devotee, this quietly elegant sculpture brings a sense of calm and character to any space — much like the feline it honours. The only question is, which one do you choose?!

How We Make Our Sculptures
We use the ancient art of Lost Wax Casting to hand cast your sculpture in solid bronze metal, never resin or ‘cold cast’ bronze. Each time a piece is cast, a new mould is created and then destroyed, ensuring that every sculpture you purchase from us is utterly unique. Each piece is individually numbered by hand, indicating its specific casting number within the edition, and bears the artist’s signature, and our ‘NF’ maker’s mark.
Creation of the Master Mould
A single-use mould is meticulously created from the original artwork. This is the heart of the process—every detail captured here will be perfectly replicated in bronze. Molten wax is then poured into this mould, creating a precise duplicate of the artist’s original sculpture.
The Bronze Pour
The wax model is coated in a ceramic shell and then fired in a kiln, a process that melts and “loses” the wax. This creates a hollow ceramic mould. Molten bronze, heated to an incredible 1200°C/2200°F, is immediately poured into this mould. Once cooled, the ceramic shell is carefully broken away, revealing the raw bronze sculpture inside.
Hand Finishing & Patina
The raw bronze sculpture is expertly hand-finished by our skilled artisans. This final stage is where the sculpture’s character comes to life. Our craftsman applies heat and a chemical patina to the sculpture, creating a unique colour and effect. Finally, a protective wax coating is carefully applied and polished, giving the sculpture a beautiful, lustrous finish.
Authenticity & Numbering
Every piece is numbered by hand, authenticating its place within the limited edition and ensuring your sculpture is truly unique. It also bears our ‘NF’ maker’s mark, and the artist’s signature, a final mark of authenticity and quality.
