This stunning sculpture of a Warthog trotting along on full alert has been lovingly sculpted and carefully cast in bronze by Sue Maclaurin, as an exclusive edition of just twelve castings worldwide, of which the first five have already been sold.
Capturing the charming character, as well as the considerable strength and weight of these endearing animals, Sue Maclaurin’s keenly observed sculpture has been carefully hand cast in a British foundry using the traditional lost wax process, before being elegantly finished with a lustrous green ‘Verdigris’ patina. Etched into the bronze base is Sue Maclaurin’s signature, as well as the sculpture’s own unique edition number, identifying it for generations to come.
Measuring an impressive 27.5 cm (10¾”) high and weighing 6.5kg (14lb 5oz), this glorious sculpture makes an eye catching centrepiece wherever it is displayed, and is guaranteed to make a lively talking point in any setting!
We are making this sculpture available to our collectors as part of our ‘Guest Artist Collection’. This is a constantly changing collection of sculptures cast by the artist themselves, that we feel our collectors would enjoy. Each piece in the Guest Artist Collection has been cast in bronze (NOT resin) by the artist in a British foundry as a small numbered limited edition, and arrives with a numbered and artist signed certificate of authenticity.
As with all of the sculpture that we cast ourselves, every casting in the Guest Artist Collection passes our rigorous quality control procedure before we add it to our catalogue. This means that you can be sure that you will receive the usual high level of quality of both sculpture and service that you expect when ordering a sculpture from Nelson & Forbes.
This sculpture arrives carefully hand packed and cushioned, ensuring that you receive your sculpture in perfect condition, wherever you are in the world.

How We Make Our Sculptures
We use the ancient art of Lost Wax Casting to hand cast your sculpture in solid bronze metal, never resin or ‘cold cast’ bronze. Each time a piece is cast, a new mould is created and then destroyed, ensuring that every sculpture you purchase from us is utterly unique. Each piece is individually numbered by hand, indicating its specific casting number within the edition, and bears the artist’s signature, and our ‘NF’ maker’s mark.
Creation of the Master Mould
A single-use mould is meticulously created from the original artwork. This is the heart of the process—every detail captured here will be perfectly replicated in bronze. Molten wax is then poured into this mould, creating a precise duplicate of the artist’s original sculpture.
The Bronze Pour
The wax model is coated in a ceramic shell and then fired in a kiln, a process that melts and “loses” the wax. This creates a hollow ceramic mould. Molten bronze, heated to an incredible 1200°C/2200°F, is immediately poured into this mould. Once cooled, the ceramic shell is carefully broken away, revealing the raw bronze sculpture inside.
Hand Finishing & Patina
The raw bronze sculpture is expertly hand-finished by our skilled artisans. This final stage is where the sculpture’s character comes to life. Our craftsman applies heat and a chemical patina to the sculpture, creating a unique colour and effect. Finally, a protective wax coating is carefully applied and polished, giving the sculpture a beautiful, lustrous finish.
Authenticity & Numbering
Every piece is numbered by hand, authenticating its place within the limited edition and ensuring your sculpture is truly unique. It also bears our ‘NF’ maker’s mark, and the artist’s signature, a final mark of authenticity and quality.
